ISSEY MIYAKE has announced that renewed its TRAPEZOID collection, eight new models were released with a new set of colors. TRAPEZOID series made its first appearance in 2008 stating since then an unique design signed by Naoto Fukasawa.
As the name “TRAPEZOID” suggests, I first had the image of trapezoid form in rotation. So, the bezel is cut steeply, and a tachymeter is provided on it.
Naoto Fukasawa
Naoto Fukasawa is a world prominent industrial designer who consults on designs for the world leading brands. He believes that designing shape is to give form to values that people tacitly share and desire. Fukasawa visually captures these values, drawing their exact outline in his designs. His ability for visualizing such unseen outlines for things is not easily described; nonetheless, people are convinced by his ability when they experience his design.
The case shape was inspired by a rotated trapezoid and this chronograph dial looks like a functional dashboard. The numbers of a tachometer are engraved on the side of the bezel and were stretched in height, to be read normally when viewed from the dials front.
This watch features a quartz analog Seiko caliber 6T63, with an accuracy +-20 seconds/month. The choice of a Seiko caliber is obvious once ISSEY MIYAKE watches are produced by Seiko Nextage CO.LTD, nonetheless being manufactured by Seiko it enables the use of fine calibers if considering the watches retail price.
Case diameter measures 43.4mm by 12.3mm thickness and its made of stainless steel, the bezel is aluminum made. Although its size the horns of the case that attach the band have a delicate angle that facilitates comfort and allows a good fit even for people with small wrists. The watch band is made polyurethane stainless steel according with the case model, nonetheless the bands always match the case color.
Price tag for this watch is 600 USD (approximately 470 €) which is indeed a fair price considering its unique design and its manufacturing quality.
